Vases are a superb canvas for decoration and design. There are many choices, and the freedom to play with glazes and decorations that are not food safe or even watertight. These set of vases are all fired to cone 10 in the soda kiln, and are decorated in a third firing with metallic lusters. The outsides are almost entirely unglazed with the exception of the rim and any natural drips, and the insides are glazed in a clean white or yellow glaze. Decoration of the outside form is done with various slips.

Some of these vases start with familiar forms, those of my mugs, just scaled up and without a handle. Others offer a more curvaceous body, with either a narrow opening at the top or a flare that allows flowers to bouquet outwards. The common theme among the set is a gold luster rim.

Brown stoneware clay, slip decorated, soda fired to cone 10 with white, yellow, and blue glazes. Luster fired with gold, silver, and mother of pearl luster.
