Flameware is a unique clay that can withstand gas stovetops and hearth in addition to ovens. I love using it for dishes that start on the stove and finish in the oven, but I also love the idea of using a piece of functional art to fry my egg in the morning.

Flameware is also unfortunately expensive, because the clay is specially formulated to be able to withstand rapid and uneven heating and cooling. It’s naturally nonstick due to the ceramic glaze we use, and can take wood or metal (but be gentle) utensils. Think of it like a cross between a cast iron, a nonstick, and an enameled dutch oven pan.

Flameware, reduction fired to cone 10. Maroon iron and silica based glaze.
